Abstract

The rights and obligations of husband and wife form the fundamental basis for building a healthy, harmonious, and sustainable marital relationship. In marriage, a husband has the right to receive protection, respect, and support from his wife, while his obligations include providing adequate financial support, safeguarding the family’s honor, and guiding his wife with care and affection. Conversely, a wife has the right to receive sufficient financial support, protection, and a sense of security in her married life, with obligations to support her husband, maintain family welfare, and uphold the family’s honor and integrity.The interaction between these rights and obligations is not only rooted in social and cultural norms but also guided by religious teachings that provide clear directives regarding the roles of each party in marriage. The balance between the rights and obligations of husband and wife is essential for creating a harmonious family filled with love, mutual respect, and understanding. A lack of balance or failure to fulfill these rights and obligations can lead to disharmony within the household. Therefore, a deep understanding of the rights and obligations of husband and wife is crucial to achieving a sakinah, mawaddah, warahmah family life and realizing the ideal objectives of marriage.
